Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences (BHIMS), was established under the umbrella of The Bombay Hospital Trust. The Bombay Hospital Trust was constituted on 06th September 1949, as a Public Charitable Trust registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act 1950.

The main purpose of setting up a hospital by the Chairman, Shri Rameshewardas Birla, the doyen of the Birla Family , a leading industrialist in India was – in his words : “The rich can get medical care anywhere because they can afford it, the poor obviously cannot pay for it. Therefore, it should be the endeavor of the Bombay Hospital to render the same level of service to the poor that the rich could get in a good hospital “.

To provide professional medical education and enhance the skill of students, Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences (BHIMS) was started in April 1990 under the able leadership of Late Dr. B. K. Goyal as Dean, who was an Internationally renowned Cardiologist.

BHIMS is a Post Graduate Institute and is only one of its kind in the private sector in India.

The Institute constitutes total 05 MD courses (General Medicine, Paediatrics, Anaesthesiology, Radiology and Pathology) 04 MS Courses (General Surgery, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology and Obstretrics & Gynaecology), 03 DM courses (Cardiology, Neurology and Nephrology) and 03 M.Ch. Courses (Neurosrugery, Urology and CVTS).

The Institute was affiliated to University of Bombay and later it was transferred to Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik.

Since its inception, around 925 students have successfully completed their PG courses and have marked themselves as a successful medical practitioner, nationally and globally.
